Ethylene is a gaseous plant hormone involved with many physiological processes including growth regulation. It restricts the elongation of sprouts after tuber dormancy break and is the basis of the sprout inhibitor, Restrain. Restrain is used to prevent sprout elongation in potatoes and onions in storage. Ethylene gas is a sustainable option, a natural replacement to CIPC. Restrain also offers a seed treatment called Accumulator. This treatment increases stem numbers, promotes faster emergence, an even size distribution and increases yield. The Accumulator has no effect on dormancy and seed can be planted within three days of stopping treatment.
